My throttle control won’t stay in the full open position it springs back to about ¾. With the engine off it stays full open. What’s the deal?

sounds like it could be the cable, try disconnecting the cable at both ends and see if it moves freely, also mine has a friction clamp in side the engine bay see if the bolt has fell out, remove the compass to get access to the cable, hope this helps ocean pilgrim

It moves freely when the engine is off. Stays in the full position. When the engine is running it only goes to 3/4 or about 2k on the tachometer.

As you advance the throttle, you are compressing a spring inside the governor. Probably what is happening is the throttle is vibrating back to 3/4. Ours does this too, but only above 2500 rpm. I seldom run it up there, so it is still low on The List. You are probably going to have to add some friction so it will stay put.

Jim, tell us about your friction clamp.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I need to find a friction clamp.
